  12.      You are probably anxious to get started, but there are a few
  13.      points worth mentioning.
  14.  
  15.      1.  If all else fails, read the PCForm Reference Manual.
  16.  
  17.          a.  The manual is easily printed by using the  following
  18.              DOS command line entry.
  19.  
  20.                COPY PCFORM.DOC PRN  <ENTER>
  21.  
  22.          b.  Be sure your  printer  is  turned  on  and  properly
  23.              aligned  for  top  of  page.   Page  form  feeds are
  24.              provided and the manual is 49 pages long.
  25.  
  26.          Note:  Some printers do not automatically apply the line
  27.                 drawing characters used on the front cover of the
  28.                 manual.  Most printers can be externally  set  to
  29.                 print   these  extended  ASCII  characters.   Why
  30.                 printer manufacturers do not default for the  use
  31.                 of these line characters is beyond reason.

  33.          c.  PCForm   also   provides   on-line  viewing  of  its
  34.              Reference Manual.  To view the  manual  from  within
  35.              PCForm press the key  combination  <ALT>  +  <V>  or
  36.              select the  Pull-Down  Menu  item  Help/View Manual.
  37.              The  manual (PCFORM.DOC) must be in the same direct-
  38.              ory  location  as  PCFORM.EXE  for  the  viewer   to
  39.              operate.

  42.      2.  PCForm is self installing.
  43.  
  44.          a.  The  following DOS command line entry will begin the
  45.              installation process.
  46.  
  47.                INSTALL  <ENTER>
  48.  
  49.          b.  You are asked to type in the install destination.
  50.  
  51.                example:  C:\PCFORM
  52.  
  53.          c.  If the location given does not  exist,  PCForm  will
  54.              create it for you.

  59.          d.  If enough  space is  available  on  the  destination
  60.              drive,  the  install service also will allow you the
  61.              opportunity to install the  sample  forms.   If  you
  62.              choose  to install these forms, they are placed in a
  63.              subdirectory  named  SAMPLES  within  the  directory
  64.              to which you have installed PCForm.

  66.                example:  C:\PCFORM\SAMPLES
  67.  
  68.          e.  The following files are used in the install  process
  69.              and  must  be  present  for  this service to operate
  70.              properly.

  76.      3.  SET your environment variable.
  77.  
  78.          a.  If PCForm is  not  in  the  current  directory  when
  79.              started,  it will look for the following environment
  80.              variable to locate internal data.  If this  variable
  81.              is  not present, you are asked to enter the location
  82.              of PCForm.  To avoid this constant entry a line  can
  83.              be added to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  87.          b.  Replace "location" with the drive  and/or  directory
  88.              where PCForm resides.

  90.                example:  SET PCFORM=C:\PCFORM
  91.

  93.      4.  Establish your startup search path.
  94.  
  95.          a.  To avoid root directory clutter,  PCForm  will  org-
  96.              anize  your  forms  from  an  established  drive and
  97.              directory.  Use the menu option  Setup/Path,  within
  98.              PCForm, to create your own startup search path.  The
  99.              initial default setting is the current drive and the
  100.              directory \PCFORM.

  102.                example:  C:\PCFORM
  103.  
  104.          b.  Use the menu option  'Setup/Save' to  make  any  new
  105.              settings available for the next use of PCForm.
  106.

  108.      5.  Provided with PCForm is a set of samples  forms.   These
  109.          forms  are  compressed  in  a self-extracting file named
  110.          FORMS.EXE.  Contained also within this file is a  sample
  111.          Auto-Tab file named JOBCOST.(T).

  116.          a.  If  you  did  not  elect to install the sample forms
  117.              with the PCForm install  service,  you  can  install
  118.              then   manually   from  the  DOS  command  line.  To
  119.              uncompress the sample files type the following  line
  120.              at your DOS prompt and read the instructions.

  124.          b.  To  use the sample Auto-Tab file copy it to the same
  125.              drive and directory location where you  have  placed
  126.              PCFORM.EXE.   If  you use the PCForm install service
  127.              and install the sample forms, this  copying  process
  128.              is  performed  for you.  Next, start PCForm and load
  129.              the sample form JOBCOST.FRM.  Now  select  the  menu
  130.              option  'Tab/Load Set'  to  select  and activate the
  131.              Auto-Tab file (JOBCOST).

  133.              Note:  Please  read  the  section  of  the Reference
  134.                     Manual 'Pull-Down Menu - Tab'  for  more  in-
  135.                     formation on the Auto-Tab features.
